Liverpool claimed the sixth Champion’s league title of their iconic franchise history by defeating EPL rival Tottenham 2-0 in the tournament final. The Reds scored early on a controversial penalty in the second minute and then tacked on an insurance goal late to seal the deal. The match was decided in the first 22 seconds on a controversial hand ball called against the Spur’s Moussa Sissiko. Egyptian national Mohamed Salah calmly converted the penalty for a 1-0 lead that Liverpool would never relinquish.
Tottenham had the better of play for most of the game with 65% of the possession time. The Spurs outshot the Reds 16-14 with an 8-3 edge for shots on goal. Divock Origi added the clincher in the 87th minute. Tottenham’s top player and leading scorer Harry Kane played for the first time in two months after suffering an ACL sprain but was a non-factor with just 26 touches in 90 minutes, the least of any player that played the full game.
