The Baylor Lady Bears edged Notre Dame 82-81 Sunday night, to win the third NCAA Women’s Basketball Championship is school history. Baylor seemed to be in command the entire way and led by double-digits several time in the fourth quarter. Baylor led led 62-50 late in the third quarter when Bear point forward Lauren Cox went down with a knee injury and things quickly went South from there for the top-seeded Bears. Tied at 74-74 with four-and-change to play, Cox limped out of the locker room to return to the bench and Baylor gathered itself for the one point win.
Baylor becomes just the third team to win three NCAA titles in women’s basketball in NCAA era joining UConn (11) and Tennessee (8) in that rare air. Baylor also won in 2005 and 2012.
