The Philadelphia Eagles have been hit by the injury bug again as running back Jay Ajayi has been put on injured reserve after tearing his ACL in Sunday’s 23-21 loss to the Minnesota Vikings. This is another crippling blow to an offense that has failed to score 24 points in any of its first five games. Ajayi joins wide outs Mike Wallace (broken leg) and Mack Hollins (groin) as out for the year. Veteran Darren Sproles (hamstring) and Corey Clement (quad) have had trouble staying on the field. Both should be active this week and HC Doug Pederson will have to find a way to spread Ajayi’s snaps between them and rookies Josh Adams and Wendell Smallwood.
The 2-3 defending World Champions have had a hard time establishing the run all year. Last year, Philadelphia scored 24+ points on 12 occasions to tie for the lead in that catagory. Pederson has stated that he is happy with what he has but the Eagles have one of the better offensive lines in the league and help could be on the way. Could a Le’Veon Bell deal be in the works ???
