The Chicago Bulls rebuild took a hit Friday when it was learned that the 7’0″ Finnish big man would miss the first 6-8 weeks of the season with a high-grade lateral sprain of the right elbow. The injury, suffered in practice, is likely to keep the No.7 pick in the 2017 NBA draft out until mid or late November, approximately 12-15 games.
Markkanen had a strong rookie season for the Bulls averaging 15.2 points and 7.5 rebounds per game in 68 games and was named to the first-team NBA All-Rookie team. Markkanen is a rare big that can take his game outside and knocked down 36,2% of his three point attempts during his rookie season. Markkanen would have been part of a new Bull front court consisting of free agent signing Jabari Parker and lottery pick Wendell Carter Jr.
