Las Vegas Aces power forward A’Ja Wilson has been selected as the unanimous choice of WNBA Rookie of the year. Wilson, the first overall pick in last year’s WNBA draft, had won of the best rookie seasons in WNBA history averaging 20.7 points-per-game and ripping down 8.0 rebounds-per-game while blocking a tick less than two shots per game. Wilson scored in double-digits every game and her 46.2% shooting percentage was the best of a WNBA rookie.
It’s been a big year for Wilson who won a National Championship with South Carolina in 2017 while taking down College Player of the Year honors. Wilson was the first player selected in the 2018 WNBA draft by the Aces who improved their win count from just eight as the then San Antonio Silver Stars to 14-20 this year and just missing the playoffs in the final week. Wilson is currently on the U.S. National team and scored 20 points and 15 rebounds in Saturday’s 74-68 win over Canada.
