Two teams looking to improve their tournament seeding at the 19-8 Creighton Blue Jays travel to Indianapolis to take on the 18-10 Butler Bulldogs in a key Big East matchup. It’s highly unlikely that either of these teams can catch Xavier or Villanova for a No.1 or No.2 seed but both teams are in the mix with Seton Hall and Providence for a top four seed which would be beneficial down the line. The current Vegas line is Butler -6 with the total set at 157 1/2.
Creighton has lost three of four overall and three of five on the road with the only wins coming against Big East bottom feeders. The Blue Jay season took a major hit when PF Martin Krampelj (11.8, 8.1) went down with a torn ACL on January 18th and was lost for the season. Marcus Foster (20.0 ppg., 44.5% from beyond the arc) is Creighton’s leading scorer and the latest in a line of excellent Blue Jay snipers.
Butler has lost three of four overall and is just 5-3 at home in conference losing two of their last three at Hinkle Fieldhouse. The Bulldogs are led by F Kelan Martin (20.7, 6.4) and G Kamar Baldwin (15.6, 5.). Butler currently ranks 5th in scoring and 3rd in points allowed.
Creighton won the first meeting 85-76 in Omaha on January 9th, the Jays shooting 68% inside the arc. Creighton has won the last three in the series splitting four games at this venue. The Blue Jays are 0-4 this year as a conference road dog while Butler is 13-10 in L23 as a home favorite. Big East home faves this year are 22-19.
